Metro police target drugs and drinking in the city
Three alleged drug dealers and manufacturers were caught
A tip-off led to the Tshwane Metro Police Department (TMPD) drug unit bringing three alleged drug dealers to book in Arcadia on Friday.
TMPD spokesperson, Senior Superintendent Isaac Mahamba, said that members were responding to a complaint about drugs that were allegedly manufactured in the area.
The investigation led to the arrest of two Tanzanian nationals aged 28 and 45. “The pair were found in possession of 600g of chemicals that are used to manufacture crack cocaine, and scales,” said Mahamba.
Upon further questioning, the two suspects led the officers to another address where the third Tanzanian was arrested.
“He was found in possession of crystal meth, heroin, and cocaine, [with an] estimated street value of all drugs [of] R85 000.”
Mahamba said that TMPD members also conducted operations in other parts of the city to tackle drunk driving and by-law contraventions.
In Hammanskraal, the TMPD conducted a joint drunk driving operation on Friday.
The operation led to the arrest of eight drivers who were driving under the influence of alcohol.
Additionally, 12 people were arrested for public drinking, and 44 infringement fines were issued.
In Winterveld, members conducted a by-law operation that resulted in four fines and 15 notices issued for by-law contraventions. One shop was also closed for non-compliance.
“Well done to all TMPD members for the ongoing enthusiasm in law enforcement,” said Mahamba.
He closed with, “The Chief of TMPD, Commissioner Yolanda Faro gives gratitude to the hard work and dedication portrayed by TMPD members.”
