Moot shootings: Police investigate triple murder and suicide

Police are investigating three murders and a suicide after two shootings in the Moot on Wednesday. Here is the latest information.

Police said they are investigating three murders and a suicide after two shootings in the Moot on Wednesday.

Warrant officer Johan van Dyk said at approximately 11:30, the Pretoria-Moot SAPS were alerted to attend two shooting incidents.

“The first incident occurred at a residential complex in Rietfontein. Upon arrival, SAPS members discovered a 45-year-old woman with gunshot wounds to the head.

“Despite the presence of medical emergency personnel, the victim could not be assisted and was declared deceased at the scene.”

He said in the second incident, at a supermarket and takeaway shop in Gezina, police found three people with fatal gunshot wounds.

“Preliminary investigations revealed that the 47-year-old owner of the shop had an argument with his employees after opening the shop earlier in the morning.

“He then left the premises, went to his residence, retrieved a pistol, and fatally shot his wife. Subsequently, he returned to the supermarket, where he shot two employees, a 39-year-old man and a woman (age currently unknown), before turning the firearm on himself and committing suicide.”

Van Dyk said three murder cases have been registered, and an inquest docket has been opened in connection with the suicide.

“A 9mm pistol was recovered at the supermarket and is part of the ongoing investigation.”
