Scrapyard owner arrested, police recover four stolen vehicles

The scrapyard owner is set to appear in court soon for possession of stolen vehicles.

The Tshwane Metro Police Department Tactical Unit members arrested a 40-year-old male suspect, who is a scrapyard owner and recovered four stolen vehicles on November 1 in Mayville, North of Pretoria.

The TMPD Tactical Unit members responded to a radio complaint regarding multiple stolen vehicles in a scrapyard.

TMPD spokesperson Senior Superintendent Isaac Mahamba said upon arriving at the scene, the officers discovered many cars that had been stripped of their parts.

“Without delay, the Tactical Unit began to investigate and rapidly distributed information on all the vehicles in the scrapyard to confirm which ones were stolen and successfully identified four Mercedes Benz models – two V Class, a CLA, and a C200 that had been reported stolen,” said Mahamba.

Mahamba said the scrapyard owner, was arrested on the spot and detained at the local police station for possession of stolen vehicles.

“The suspect will face charges in court soon, where he will be held accountable for his actions.”

The Chief of Police, Commissioner YCR Faro applauded the Tactical Unit for its swift and decisive actions in recovering the vehicles.
