TMPD task team nabs notorious criminal
A criminal wanted for multiple offenses was arrested after officers noticed him pushing a Ford bakkie off Molefe Makinta Road.
The Tshwane Metro Police Department (TMPD) task team has made strides in the fight against crime following the arrest of three suspects including a notorious criminal wanted for multiple offences in Soshanguve and Ga-Rankuwa Zone 4 on November 1.
The officers were conducting their routine patrol in Soshanguve when they observed four armed individuals robbing six victims.
TMPD spokesperson Senior Superintendent Issac Mahamba said as the officers approached, the suspects ran away, leading to a tense pursuit.
Mahamba said a suspect fired at the officers, who returned fire.
“The quick response resulted in the arrest of one suspect, while another was injured and subsequently taken to a nearby hospital under police guard.
“The officers seized an unlicensed firearm, ammunition, and a stash of stolen goods, including multiple mobile phones and valuable watches, further implicating the suspects in ongoing criminal activities in the area,” he said.
According to Mahamba, the task team was also on patrol along Molefe Makinta Road when they noticed a man pushing a Ford bakkie off the roadside.
He said the officers, keen to assist, helped the man move the vehicle to ensure the flow of traffic.

“However, their instincts were piqued by the man’s suspicious behaviour, prompting them to investigate the vehicle’s identity.
“Their suspicions were confirmed when they discovered that the bakkie has been reported stolen in Silverton.”
The suspect was arrested on the spot and further investigation revealed he was wanted criminal with a history of armed robbery, car theft, and hijacking in Gauteng.
The TMPD urges community members to remain vigilant and report any suspicious activity to help further enhance public safety.
