Five, including wife arrested in kidnapping of Pretoria businessman

Baboo Kaytex and his wife were abducted in the Wierdabrug area on Sunday, December 1. Kaytex’s wife was later arrested.

Police have arrested five suspects, including the wife of Pretoria businessman Baboo Kaytex, following a kidnapping incident on December 1.

The arrests took place in Mamelodi on Monday morning after Kaytex and his wife were abducted in the Wierdabrug area.

Provincial SAPS spokesperson Lieutenant Colonel Mavela Masondo confirmed that five suspects, including the wife of the victim, were arrested.

He said the kidnapping unfolded when the victims were taken by armed men in a black Jeep at the intersection of the R55 and Wierda Road near Sunderland Ridge.

“The suspects are expected to face charges of kidnapping and assault causing grievous bodily harm when they appear in the Pretoria Magistrate’s Court on Wednesday.”

Masondo explained that police are limited in the information they can disclose to avoid compromising the ongoing investigation.

According to reports, the kidnapping incident occurred when the suspects, who were driving a Jeep SRT8, forcibly bumped into the white Mercedes S-Class that Kaytex and his wife were in, compelling it to pull over.

Three armed men allegedly emerged from the Jeep and abducted both the victims.

The Mercedes was later recovered in the Heuwelhoord area, providing a crucial lead for the police.

Through intelligence gathering, law enforcement officials identified the suspects’ vehicle and tracked the victims to a house in Silver Lakes.

However, upon executing the operation, no evidence or victims were found.

During the investigation, the Jeep owner’s family members reported it as hijacked after receiving a call from the owner, who claimed he was a hijacking victim.

The abandoned Jeep was eventually located in a garage at a house in the Nellmapius area.

Following this discovery, officers raided a location in Mamelodi, leading to the arrest of the suspects and the safe recovery of the kidnapped victims.

After further investigations, police discovered that the wife of the victim had played an active role in orchestrating the kidnapping.

Officers seized several items during the operation, including firearms, cellphones, the Jeep SRT8 and a Hyundai Getz.

The investigation is ongoing as authorities work to piece together the full extent of the case.
