Mams residents encouraged to enjoy the festive season safely
Community leaders plead with the public to work with them during the festive season.
The community leaders and organisations in Mamelodi wish residents a safe festive season, Christmas and a happy New Year.
They wish everyone to begin the new year safely and strongly advise against driving drunk as well as public drinking, especially for the youth.
They further advised parents to take care of their children and not to overspend during the festive season.
Safety organisations urged the public to first prioritise their safety at all times and pleaded with them to work together.
Thabang Mabasa of Uptown Community Safety said the safety of the community comes first for his organisation. He advised the community to look after themselves and work together.
“The organisation wishes everyone a safe festive season filled with love, laughter and goodwill. Please don’t drive drunk.”
Mabasa strongly advised the public to take extra precautions, especially at the malls and stop withdrawing large amounts of money at the banks. “Merry Christmas and a prosperous new year!”
Chairperson of the Mamelodi Community Policing Forum, Eddie Mnguni, said everybody’s safety is of paramount importance, especially those who will be travelling far. “We prepare to celebrate the past year and welcome in 2025. Please drive safely and stick to the road rules. Make sure you have arranged with your street committees or neighbours to check on your assets when you are away,” said Mnguni.
“Those who will be driving, avoid speeding, and please, please don’t drink and drive.
Mnguni said CPF patrollers will be deployed at all shopping complexes and advised the public to use ATMs without fear because “we [patrollers] are there to watch over you”.
He urged parents to please regularly check on their children.
Mnguni invited those who have to share with the less fortunate because it is the right thing to do.
He concluded by pleading with the public to stop abusing the police and the metro police personnel and have a merry Christmas and a prosperous new year.
The President of Concerned Residents for Service Delivery in Mamelodi, Oupa Mtshweni wished everyone a safe festive season and advised them to take care of themselves and their loved ones. “May the year ahead be full of contentment and joy.”
He advised parents to buy enough groceries for their children, especially snacks, and avoid buying at foreign spaza shops. “We are experiencing a lot of food poisoning from these shops.”
Mtshweni further advised them to spend their savings wisely.
He also strongly advised strongly the public to stop withdrawing large amounts of money at the banks.
He concluded by wishing everyone a merry Christmas and a prosperous new year.
Concerned Tshwane Liquor Trader Association, Oupa Mthombeni appealed to all liquor traders to be extremely careful and have a safe festive season with their families and customers.
“Make sure customers drink responsibly, and most importantly, remember no underage drinking.”
Mthombeni said liquor traders should take care of customers and stick to the midnight curfew.
“Liquor traders should not think about making lots of money. There is a lot at stake, and if a customer has had enough, don’t sell them any more liquor.”
Mthombeni added traders should advise their customers not to carry large amounts of money to avoid overspending and getting robbed by criminals.
“Parents should spend wisely, and they should not forget school uniforms and stationery for their children for next year when school reopens.”
