Team boosts learners in SAPS back-to-school project

Under the leadership of a team of police officers, the Moot community came together to boost learners for the new school year.

From January 15-22, a team of police officers from SAPS Villieria under Vispol commander Lieutenant Colonel Theledi, Vispol Support officers and other stakeholders visited schools for their Back to School project.

They visited more than 20 schools including Laerskool Villieria, Hoërskool Oos-Moot, Laerskool Queenswood, Kilnerton Primary and Hoërskool Staatspresident CR Swart.

According to Warrant Officer Marinda Austin, learners were welcomed back to school for 2025 “to a new season, new beginnings, and a time to embrace new opportunities”.

She said the theme of all the motivational and educational talks by the different organisations was that success begins with a schoolbag and education.

The team of representatives all motivated learners with a Pack Your 2025 Schoolbag speech.

“We explained in this bag they carry their dreams, success and their future. But it was also explained success in school is not just about carrying your books and bag but also to take with you a water bottle that symbolises self-care. It was explained it is so necessary to take a break, breathe and recharge,” said Austin.

The crayons in their bags represent creativity and for learners to use their imagination.

Learners from Laerskool Derdepoort was motivated by a team of the Villieria police station, security officers and representatives of NPOs working in childcare when the new school terms started.

“We encouraged them to let their colours shine and to write their own story as they have the power to create their own story.”
Stakeholders included supporting security companies, as well as NPOs such as Lifeline and the SAVF.
