Devastating bus crash in De Wagensdrift leaves 16 injured
This collision marks the second bus-related accident in the Tshwane area within just three days.
A devastating bus accident involving a heavy-duty truck on Moloto Road (R573) in De Wagensdrift left 16 people, including the two drivers, injured on February 5.
The collision marks the second bus-related accident in the Tshwane area within just three days.
Tshwane Emergency Services (EMS) spokesperson Lindsay Mnguni confirmed that the accident was reported to their Emergency Communication Centre (ECC) around 07:10.
“The ECC immediately dispatched firefighting resources from Rayton, Bronkhorstspruit and Silverton fire stations to the scene,” said Mnguni.
“These included a rapid intervention unit, two bush pumpers, and a district commander’s unit.”
Additional support was also provided by firefighters from the neighbouring Thembisile Hani Local Municipality Fire and Rescue Services, who assisted with rescue operations and other critical duties.

“Both drivers were being treated by emergency medical care practitioners on-site.”
Mnguni stated that a total of 16 patients sustained injuries ranging from minor to critical.
“The injured were transported to KwaMhlanga, Netcare Montana and Mamelodi Regional hospitals for further medical treatment and observation,” Mnguni added.
The accident required a co-ordinated response from multiple agencies, including the Tshwane Metro Police Department, Gauteng and Mpumalanga Province Emergency Medical Services, the SAPS, and other role players.
“The road was closed for a brief period during the rescue operations and while the bus and truck were being recovered.”
He noted that the collision also caused oil and diesel spillages, which were promptly cleaned to ensure the safety of other road users.
“Processes for cleaning the road surface were carried out to prevent further incidents,” Mnguni said.
While the cause of the accident remains under investigation, Mnguni emphasised the importance of road safety.
“The Tshwane Emergency Services Department encourages all road users to be vigilant and mindful of safety to avoid incidents of this nature,” he urged.
“The cause of the accident has not yet been determined.”
Mnguni also reminded the public of the importance of reporting emergencies promptly and accurately.
“To report any fire or rescue incident, please call 107 toll-free or 012 358 6300/6400,” he said.
He advised those reporting emergencies to remain calm, provide clear details about their location, and share their contact information to ensure swift and effective assistance.
