Tshwane creates 400 jobs in patnership with SEFDA

Tshwane partnership with SEDFA has resulted in significant job creation and economic growth, with over 400 new jobs created and R120-million added to SMMEs turnover.

The Tshwane metro announced that its partnership with the Small Enterprise Development and Finance Agency (SEDFA) has yielded impressive results.

According to MMC for Economic Development and Spatial Planning Sarah Mabotsa, the partnership has created over 400 new jobs and a R120-million increase in turnover of small, medium, and micro enterprises (SMMEs) in the metro.

She said Tshwane is committed to supporting SMMEs, and their partnership with SEDFA is a testament to this commitment.

“We are proud to have created over 400 new jobs and added R120-million to the turnover of SMMEs in Tshwane.”

She said the metro has a range of services to support SMMEs, including dedicated investor portals and assistance for local and international businesses offered through business support centres in townships.

Mabotsa stated that section 153(a) of the Constitution of the Republic of South Africa, 1996, requires that a municipality must “structure and manage its administration and budgeting and planning processes to give priority to the basic needs of the community and to promote the social and economic development of the community”.

“The partnership between Tshwane and SEDFA has led to the establishment of a network of seven business support centres across the metro,” she said.

According to Mabotsa, the following centres provide much-needed support to small businesses, offering services clustered into five broad areas:

– Business Advisory Services: Providing expert advice to help businesses grow and thrive.

– Enterprise Development Capacity-Building Services: Building the capacity of small businesses to compete effectively.

– Business Planning Support Services: Assisting businesses in developing effective plans to achieve their goals.

– Export Awareness Programmes: Helping businesses to explore export opportunities and grow their customer base.

– Quality Assurance Services: Ensuring that businesses meet the required standards and quality norms.

She noted that since 2023, support has been provided to over 1 300 businesses, resulting in significant job creation and turnover growth.

“One notable success story is Siphamandia Steel Fabrication and Maintenance, located in Bronkhorstspruit, whose turnover grew by 89%.”

Mabotsa said during the first 100 days of the current administration, 392 SMMEs received support through these business centres.

She advised SMMEs to use the business support centres for guidance on business growth and access to funding and compliance assistance, such as tax, accreditation and banking problems.
