‘Stop spreading fake news about Hartbeespoort Dam road collapse’

The public is urged to stop spreading fake news after a viral video falsely claimed a road near the Hartbeespoort Dam tunnel had collapsed.

The National Sea Rescue Institute (NSRI) is urging the public to exercise caution and refrain from spreading fake news following the circulation of a viral video that falsely claimed the road near the tunnel at the Hartbeespoort Dam was collapsing.

The misleading footage has caused unnecessary panic and confusion, with the NSRI emphasizing the importance of verifying information before sharing it, particularly during times of crisis.

As a trusted rescue organization, the NSRI is calling on all individuals to rely on credible sources and to support efforts to ensure accurate communication for the safety and well-being of the

NSRI spokesperson Arthur Crewe told the media on Wednesday that they have been inundated with calls from concerned residents.

It is believed the video being shared is from an incident that happened in China and not South Africa.

 The Pretoria ICE Community Network also confirmed on Wednesday morning that the tunnel is intact and operational, and there have been no reports of any incidents or damage.
