Here is how to identify official Tshwane contractors

Customers are advised to be vigilant and refuse the services of bogus contractors and report them by contacting the Tshwane metro police on 083 657 2998 as soon as they are approached.

The Tshwane metro has warned that bogus electricians, purporting to be contracted to it, are going around tempting residents to bypass their electricity meters for free power supply, at a fee, of course.

This comes after Rekord received reports on residents being unsure of how to spot contractors looking to do city work in or near their properties.

These bogus electricians sometimes offer to assist customers tamper with their electricity meters in return for cash payment on the spot.

Residents are advised to be vigilant.

Metro spokesperson Lindela Mashigo said city electricians will drive a vehicle marked with a Tshwane sticker.

“The sticker will have a tender number, its valid period and contractor’s abbreviations,” said Mashigo.

Mashigo said the electrician will have an identification card, driver’s licence and a letter of identification from the city.

“The electrician should or will have a job card (hard copy or electronic on the handheld mobile device) with details of where he is going to work,” said Mashigo.

Customers are advised to be vigilant and refuse the services of these lawbreakers and report them to the Tshwane metro police on 083 657 2998 as soon as they are approached.

The metro warned that should residents collude with these bogus electricians, they would be slapped with a hefty fine for tampering with city infrastructure. “Rather report them without any delay.”

Mashigo warned the impostors that they would be arrested, charged and prosecuted, as their actions were criminal.
