Moot gets to know first responders better

First responders are those emergency services companies and staff that a member of a community must be able to trust. A day dedicated to further communication between residents of the Moot, achieved in building this trust.

The first ever Emergency Service Carnival was held at The Moot Lockhouse Park on March 1 to help the community to meet the first responders after traumatic events such as accidents or fires.

“These are the people who keep the neighbourhood safe by responding to traumatic incidents,” said Warrant Officer Marinda Austin of the Villieria Police Station.

“We also held the day to build trust between all law enforcement agencies and to encourage open communication and cooperation in maintaining safety in our community,” explained Austin.

The event was attended by police officials, first responders and community members.

Exhibitors brought together organisations dedicated to public safety and community wellbeing, including the SAPS Villlieria Community Policing Forum, Proshield Security, Brinant Security, Kilnerpark Security, Fidelity Security, City of Tshwane Emergency Service Department, Best Care, and Mon Ami Trauma troopers.

Guests that also attended the carnival included the SAVF, Child Protection Hotline, Braveheart Bio-Dog Unit, and Every Child Matters First Aid Training.

At the carnival, Radio Pulpit interviewed roleplayers to share their insights on public safety and the importance of community engagements.

“These broadcasts were one of the highlights of the day for me,” said Austin.

She stressed that by bringing together emergency service roleplayers, the security and trauma industry in the Moot is reassuring the community that help is always available.
