Nellmapius community benefits from service blitz
Nellmapius Community Hall was abuzz as community members walked there in their numbers to access government services during the service blitz.
The Tshwane Department of Social Development hosted a service blitz to cater to the needs of Mamelodi residents in Nellmapius on March 11.
The initiative aimed to render services to the community.
It was a collaborative effort featuring different NPO stakeholders. The services included, health, Sassa, Home Affairs, betting advice and many more.
The initiative was met with excitement from community members as they expressed happiness and acceptance of the services provided.
Community member Deliwe Langklass said, “I would like to thank the government for the outreach programme. They are always making empty promises, but today those promises have come to light, it will be nice if it happens continuously.”
Another resident, Siphiwe Phukwane, said the packed event provided an essential opportunity to Nellmapius residents as they were able to access services without having to travel long distances. “We no longer have to travel to town for these services as they are rendered to us today,” he said.
Phukwane also expressed satisfaction with the services provided. “I am very happy with how the initiative is able to facilitate communication between the government and us community members, “noted Phukwane.
Social worker Maria Makhafola from Social Development said going forward, according to the new financial year plan, the initiative will be provided more often.
“We will make it an outreach that will be rendered quarterly to community members across Tshwane to help address different social issues,” she said.
