Mams production raises awareness about social issues

The drama is about social issues and is described as educational theatre. The production company is scouting for local talent to star in the play.

A professional artist from Mamelodi is working on an educational drama production about social issues.

Seth Zimu from Mamelodi West is the founder of non-profit organisation, Square Pass Production, which is searching for talented actors, dancers, singers and actors in Mamelodi and surrounding areas.

He is currently working on a production called Through the eyes of High School, which they will be performing at local schools from March 24 to 28.

Zimu said the production is about social issues, from breadwinners, suicide, boyfriends, homosexuality, to breaking the silence, uncles, social workers, rape, crime, drugs and gay people afraid of coming out.

“The production is about the things that we face and happen in our communities.

“The production is a must-see production, as it will spark serious conversations among learners, teachers and the community at large,” said Zimu.

He described it as educational theatre that will help fight, heal the community and keep their children safe and away from the streets.

The production is like an academy, as it operates by scouting new talent in Mamelodi and sharing talent, learning from each other, but most importantly, keeping Mamelodi children away from crime and drugs.

“We are not only teaching them about the arts, but we are also making sure they focus on their schoolwork.”

Square Pass Production was officially launched last year, looking at the talent there is in Mamelodi and giving a platform to those who want to pursue careers in theatre, drama, music, and moving pictures.

The aim is to help young stars perfect their craft and build their confidence in everything they do in music, dance, and/or art.

“Our lessons are free because we don’t want to see talent go to waste in Mamelodi.”

Square Pass Production operates at Mamelodi Beer Hall Monday to Friday from 10:00 – 13:00.

Zimu also pleaded with local businessmen to help with any form of donations to help the production grow.
