Klitsgras Drumming welcomes fools from far and wide
The Festival of Fools has been running for the past five years.
Klitsgras Drumming hosted its annual Festival of Fools event this past weekend in Garsfontein, a night aimed at making non-conformity the order of the day.
Klitsgras Drumming Circles has been a local favourite for ages as it enters its 26th year. The Festival of Fools has been running for the past five years.
“Whenever you go anywhere, I don’t know about the whole of South Africa but Pretoria and Johannesburg, you get more or less of the same thing. What I wanted to do is create something different that would give people a different experience where you can come out, hang out, enjoy a different experience, dress differently and have some fun,” said founder and owner of Klitsgras Drumming, Andries Bruyns.
The festival offered a variety of entertainment for its guests including stiltwalkers, fire dancers, jugglers, close-up magicians, DJ and dancefloor as well as performances by musicians from West Africa.

Bruyns says that post-Covid, the circles have seen a dip in attendance but maintains that stopping by on the first Saturday of every month is a decision that you won’t regret.
“People just like to sit down and drink and it’s boring, at least for me it is. I like to go out and experience something different and the cliché around the drum circles is that it’s the same thing but it’s a different experience every time for every different person,” Bruyns says.
Klitgras Drumming is hosting its next event, The Percussion Strikes Back on May 3.
