Voices unite in powerful night of worship
A soul-stirring gospel concert, Praise South Africa, brought together top voices like Dr Tumi, Janine Price, Khaya, and Stella. Held at Moreleta Church and initiated by Julita Lamprechts, the night featured powerful solos and moving duets.
On the evening of April 11, Moreleta Church reverberated with powerful voices and heartfelt worship during Praise South Africa, a gospel concert that brought together some of the nation’s most beloved artists.
The brainchild of gospel music promoter Julita Lambrechts Kok of NueLight Events from Kleinmond in the Western Cape, the concert proved to be a moving celebration of faith and talent.
The stage was set for a night to remember, with a richly harmonious female ensemble forming a choir doing the backing vocals but also performing some songs. Their strong individual voices blended seamlessly.
A standout moment came with the duet “Sing His Name”, performed by Stella and Janine Price, two special voices that complemented each other beautifully. Price, who spent her formative years at Hillsong College in Australia under the mentorship of Darlene Zschech, showcased a joyous and melodic voice as well as a magnetic stage presence. Her faith and training were evident in every note.

Refentse Morake delivered a heartfelt solo, “Die Here het ’n plan”, filled with soul and sincerity, while Dr Tumi’s performance of “Nothing Without You” was both powerful and deeply spiritual.
Dr Tumi, a medical doctor and motivational speaker, reminded the appreciative audience of their own calling. His recent success in co-writing and producing “Trust Fall”, which reached number 1 on the US iTunes Christian and Gospel charts, is widely acknowledged by his fans.
Duets were the heart of the evening. “I Speak Jesus”, performed by Janine Price and Khaya, stirred the audience, while “Waymaker”, sung by Thokozani Nzima and Margaret Motsage, stood out as one of the concert’s most memorable highlights.
Julanie J’s solo, “This Is the Day” brought energy and vibrancy to the stage, while the female ensemble blended well with “So Will I”, enveloping the audience in worship.
One of the most touching moments was when Karlien van Jaarsveld took off her shoes and sat humbly on the stage steps to perform her song “Stiltes”. Honest and raw, the track resonated deeply with the audience. She later joined Julanie J in a stirring duet.

Stella, a familiar name in the South African worship scene, gave a breathtaking solo performance at the piano. A mother of three and a worship leader known for ushering in the tangible presence of God, Stella transported the audience with her uniquely anointed voice.
The backing orchestra, featuring Lizelle le Roux, Susan Mouton, Carli D’Alebout Smit and Daline Mitchley on classical instruments, added a rich and elegant layer to the sound, while the choir provided powerful vocal support throughout the night.
Khaya and Dr Tumi emerged as crowd favourites. Khaya’s new release, “Outpouring”, was met with enthusiasm.
Retief Burger, a key figure in the Nuwelof-initiative, joined in many of the evening’s songs by other artists. His rendition of some of his own songs in a medley, struck a deep chord with the audience. The Nuwelof initiative is aimed at creating scripture-rooted, Spirit-inspired worship songs in Afrikaans.

Praise South Africa was more than a concert; it was an experience of worship, unity, and heartfelt praise, a testament to the rich gospel heritage of South Africa and the voices continuing to carry it forward.
