Centurion NPO spreads love and support to those in need
The organisation has helped many people, providing essential services and support to underserved communities.
A non-profit organisation based in Heuweloord, Centurion is dedicated to helping those in need across the country.
Angels of Hope was established in 2012 by its founder, Fiona Rassool. It has become a lifeline for many people, providing essential services and support to underserved communities.
Rassool explained that she initially started the NPO with the mission to create meaningful change.
“I started this NPO because I wanted to help the less fortunate, and over the past several years, we have managed to touch many lives,” she said.
At first, the organisation focused solely on a feeding scheme at a homeless shelter in central Pretoria.
Rassool noted that this initiative was followed by other projects, including the Winter Warmer projects, where they provide blankets and hot meals to those in need during the cold months.
“Over the years, we have significantly expanded our efforts and reached out to orphanages, old age homes, and homeless shelters,” she said.
The organisation’s team comprises passionate people and volunteers from diverse backgrounds who dedicate their time to uplifting the lives of others.
“I feel good that we are able to work as a team and touch so many lives,” Rassool said.
She emphasised that one of the initiatives that stands out to her is the Blessings Bag initiative, where they provide canned foods, bottled water, and hygiene items to over 2 000 individuals throughout the year.
“We also have the Angel Project, where we offer young women from disadvantaged backgrounds the opportunity to change their lives in small but impactful ways.”

She said one aspect of this project involves assisting young girls with dresses for their matric dance.
“This helps to ensure that they can attend this special moment as they graduate from high school, feeling confident and celebrated,” added Rassool.
The organisation also runs a grocery drive year-round, collecting and distributing groceries to orphanages and old age homes.
During Ramadan, they donate food items and gently used clothing to those in need while also providing essential winter gear.
One of Rassool’s proudest initiatives is the Mass Feeding programme, where they select a community to cook for and provide meals during Ramadan.
She fondly recalled how they would close the streets and bring the entire community together to share a meal.
“The atmosphere is always amazing,” she said.
“Another initiative that stands out for me is the School Bag Project, where we collect donated school supplies, bags, and toys for children, often in rural areas.
“Last year, we managed to help thousands of children, and that makes me happy.”
Rassool emphasised the importance of community involvement, which is partly why the organisation can provide help to others.
She believes people must come together for a common good.
“We hope that more individuals will continue to support our initiative by volunteering their time and donating supplies,” she said.
“We accept new or gently used clothing that is still in good condition, as well as other goods that we sell to help fund our projects.”
Looking ahead, Rassool said they aim to concentrate on their charity shop to raise funds for sending students to tertiary education.
She also advised those interested in starting similar initiatives to assess community needs and build strong relationships with local NPOs.
“Collaboration and clear communication are key,” she said.
Rassool believes that community initiatives like Angels of Hope are vital in fostering connection and resilience.
“They remind us that we are not alone in our struggles and that together we can create positive change.”
