Foundation brings hope to Pretoria North learners
The foundation is on a mission to improve the well-being of school children living in poverty.
In Pretoria North, where poverty often speaks loudest through torn shoes and empty lunchboxes, one foundation is rewriting the narrative by assisting those in need with school uniforms, sanitary pads, and a whole lot of heart.
The Rammolai Foundation, a small but mighty initiative, is quietly restoring dignity to underprivileged children, one donation at a time.
Founded in August 2021 by Motlomo Ramatlo, the organisation was born from the heartbreak of seeing too many learners fall behind simply because they lacked the basics.
“Children were coming to school with broken shoes, no toiletries, and the girl child would miss school days due to a lack of sanitary pads. I knew I had to step in,” said Ramatlo.
He said today, the foundation is making a visible difference in schools across Pretoria North with a mission to improve the well-being of school children and ensure no child misses school because of poverty.
The foundation’s work does more than meet physical needs; it boosts confidence, encourages attendance, and inspires young minds to dream bigger.
“In the first year alone, the foundation donated sanitary pads and toiletries to over 800 underprivileged children.
“One of our remarkable achievements was taking 200 children to Freedom Flying School, where they received aviation education and, for some, experienced flying for the very first time,” said Ramatlo.
He said teachers and school principals play a crucial role in identifying children in need, allowing the foundation to offer targeted, meaningful support.
Ramatlo said these interventions have helped restore a sense of belonging and pride among learners who once felt invisible.
“We track our progress by holding regular reflection meetings.
“We look at our challenges, learn from them, and set goals for the future.”
Though the foundation operates mostly on individual donations and volunteer support, Ramatlo hopes to see more businesses get involved.
“Most companies say they’re already helping other foundations, but we believe there’s always room for one more act of kindness.”
The foundation has big dreams for the future, from reaching more schools to building self-esteem and improving academic performance for as many children as possible.
Ramatlo said they plan to roll out another sanitary pad and toiletries drive at several schools in and around Pretoria North.
“What motivates us is the smiles. Seeing the joy in a child’s eyes when they receive something they need, that’s everything.”
