Three men arrested for possession of two firearms and axe
The recovered guns were taken for thorough testing to determine whether they have been used before to commit crime.
A stop and search operation saw police officers recovering two firearms and an axe.
The search was conducted on April 29 by members of Temba South African Police Service in Stinkwater.
According to police spokesperson Captain Johan van Dyk, police officers conducted a search of three unknown male suspects.
“Constable Zondi, Constable Ntuli and Constable Khosana came across three unknown males who were carrying a school bag,” he said.
Van Dyk said when the vehicle stopped with the intention to conduct a stop and search, the suspects dropped the bag and ran into the bushes.
“When the members searched the bag, they found two firearms and an axe including clothes.”
He said one firearm was established to be a replica and the clothes suspected to have been used after committing a crime.
“The firearms will be subjected to ballistic testing to determine if it was used in committing of other crimes,” said van Dyk.
Station commander Brigadier Tau applauded the three officers who were policing that area and showed dedication by preventing crime before it happens.
“Those suspects were intending to commit a serious crime and they were prevented,” he said.
Tau welcomed the recovery of those firearms and an axe.
