Bronkhorstspruit water treatment to be closed for critical upgrades

The Tshwane metro has announced the temporary shutdown of the Bronkhorstspruit Water Treatment Plant to facilitate the installation of new panels.

The panels are to be installed on high-lift motors, a vital upgrade to improve water distribution efficiency.

The shutdown will begin on May 5 and is expected to continue until May 16.

This maintenance work will affect several communities in Region 7.

Metro spokesperson Lindela Mashigo said the upgrade is essential to ensure the efficient and reliable operation of the high-lift pumps. They are responsible for distributing treated water to elevated storage or directly into the municipal water system.

“These new panels will significantly improve the performance of our high-lift motors, which play a key role in supplying water to our communities. We are working to complete this upgrade within the specified timeframe,” said Mashigo.

Areas that will experience water interruptions include:

– Bronkhorstspruit Town
– Ekandustria
– Ekangala
– Rethabiseng
– Riamarpark
– Zithobeni
– Thembisile Hani Local Municipality (cross-border supply)

Mashigo assured residents that roaming water tankers will be deployed to all affected areas during the shutdown period.

“We apologise for the inconvenience caused and urge residents to use water sparingly. Updates will be communicated regularly as work progresses.”

He said the metro intends to complete the upgrade within the specified period and will closely monitor and update residents on developments.
