28 arrested as Tshwane takes action against drunk driving
TMPD pleads with community members to always prioritise responsible driving and take safety precautions.

To mitigate drunk driving in Tshwane, the metro police (TMPD) hosted operations in Mamelodi and Winternest over the past weekend, during which 28 people were arrested.
The operation was held in Region 6 on Friday.
In a statement, the TMPD said the operation was a continuation of the Easter period effort to promote road safety and prevent road fatalities.
“During the operation, 12 drivers under the influence of alcohol were arrested and several infringement fines were issued.”
TMPD said its members hosted another anti-drunk-driving operation in Region 1, Winternest.
“Several vehicles were searched, five people were arrested for drunk driving, four were arrested for public drinking, and seven undocumented foreigners were also arrested.”
The department urged all members of the community to always prioritise responsible driving and take safety precautions, as drunk driving is very irresponsible behaviour that could put innocent lives at risk and could cause fatal accidents.
