Man expected in court following fatal stabbing

Community members apprehended the suspect shortly after he stabbed a 35-year-old man during an argument on Saturday evening.

A 40-year-old man is expected to appear in the Pretoria North Magistrate’s Court on Tuesday to face a murder charge.

The arrest follows a fatal stabbing in Mahlakeng Informal Settlement, north of Pretoria, on Saturday evening.

Pretoria North police spokesperson Sergeant Tumisang Moloto said the accused was apprehended by community members shortly after stabbing a 35-year-old man during an argument.

Moloto said local authorities were alerted and responded swiftly to the scene where the suspect had been restrained by residents.

“The police were directed to the location of the crime, where they discovered the lifeless body of the victim and seized a sharp object believed to have been used in the attack,” said Moloto.

Station commander Colonel Nonzwakazi Julla commended the community for their decisive action in apprehending the suspect and handing him over to law enforcement.

“We appreciate the quick response from our community members, which led to the arrest.

“This is a great example of how police and community co-operation can assist in tackling violent crime,” said Julla.

The suspect remains in custody.

Moloto said police investigations are continuing.
