Reservoir maintenance sparks fears of water supply interruptions in parts of the north

The maintenance proposed by Tshwane metro will last for two days focusing on the urgent cleaning of Montana Reservoir.

The Montana Reservoir will undergo planned maintenance as from today, causing possible water interruptions in some parts of the north.

The work will consist of the urgent cleaning and washing of the reservoir from May 12 to 14.

The Tshwane metro has cautioned residents to use water sparingly during the maintenance period.

According to Tshwane, this work is part of the ongoing operation and maintenance of the bulk water supply systems.

“This includes regular cleaning of storage reservoirs essential to securing water quality and system integrity,” said metro spokesperson Lindela Mashigo.

He said during this period, residents of the Montana Reservoir zone will continue to receive water through a temporary bypass pipeline.

“However, this pipeline has a lower capacity than the reservoir and may not fully meet peak demand,” Mashigo explained.

He said, as a result, consumers are strongly urged to use water sparingly throughout the maintenance period.

“The maintenance work will also impact water supply to the Magalieskruin, Sinoville High Level, and Sinoville Low-Level reservoirs,” said Mashigo.

In addition, Mashigo said Tshwane appreciate the public’s co-operation and understanding as they work to maintain the reliability and quality of the water infrastructure.
