Here are the most dangerous suburbs in Pretoria

Pretoria’s most dangerous suburbs have been revealed in the latest SAPS stats — and the findings may shock you.

Pretoria’s crime hotspots have been exposed in the latest SAPS fourth-quarter statistics, revealing a sharp rise in violent offences across several suburbs. From hijackings to armed robberies and assaults, the capital’s most dangerous areas are now under the spotlight — and some may surprise you.

Based on the South African Police Service (SAPS) crime statistics for the fourth quarter of the 2024/2025 financial year (October to December 2024), several Pretoria suburbs have been identified as crime hotspots due to elevated incidents of serious crimes.

Here are Pretoria’s most dangerous suburbs:

  • Akasia: Kidnappings, contact crimes, common assaults, robberies with aggravating circumstances, property-related crimes, motor vehicle theft, and malicious damage to property.
  • Mamelodi East: Rape and sexual offences, gender-based violence (GBV) assaults, common assault, robbery with aggravating circumstances, trio crimes (carjackings, residential and non-residential robberies), motor vehicle theft, and malicious damage to property.
  • Temba: Rape and sexual offences, common assault, house break-ins, robbery with aggravating circumstances, trio crimes (carjackings, home and business robberies), motor vehicle theft, and malicious damage to property.
  • Sunnyside:  Sexual offences, attempted murders, assault with intent to cause grievous bodily harm (GBH), common assault, and common robbery.
  • Brooklyn: Kidnappings, common robbery, sexual offences, rape, and commercial crimes.
  • Pretoria Central:  Common robbery, robbery with aggravating circumstances, common assault, and contact crimes.
  • Loate: Robbery with aggravating circumstances and hijackings.
  • Pretoria West: Hijackings and robbery with aggravating circumstances.
  • Rietgat: Hijackings.
  • Olievenhoutbosch:  Hijackings.

Despite the concerning statistics in certain areas, there have been notable improvements in others. For instance, Pretoria Central reported a 26.4% decrease in contact crimes, including significant reductions in common robbery and robbery with aggravating circumstances.
