Brits trio to appear in court for armed robberies
The Brits Trio Task Team and Makapanstad detectives arrested Dumisane Shabangu, Kenneth Hlongwane, and Tebogo Seodisa on June 25.
Three suspects who were arrested during a high-stakes police operation in Maubane Village, north of Pretoria, are expected to return to Temba Magistrate’s Court on July 11.
They face a string of serious charges linked to house and business robberies in the area.
Dumisane Shabangu (33), Kenneth Hlongwane (25), and Tebogo Seodisa (22) were apprehended on June 25 during an operation by the Brits Trio Task Team and Makapanstad detectives.
Police spokesperson Brigadier Sabata Mokgwabone said the suspects made their first court appearance on June 27, and are being held in custody until their next appearance. He hailed their arrest as a breakthrough in tackling the recent surge of violent crimes in and around Maubane’s Block A, where several robberies have left residents living in fear.
Police believe the suspects may be linked to additional unsolved cases, and investigations are ongoing.
During the operation, police recovered two unlicensed firearms, six rounds of ammunition, a cellphone, a drill machine, clothing, and a packet of nappies, all believed to be stolen goods.
“Shabangu is charged with business robbery, unlawful possession of ammunition, and attacking a police officer, Hlongwane is facing charges of armed robbery and possession of an unlicensed firearm and Seodisa is also charged with armed robbery and possession of an unlicensed firearm. Investigations into the matter are underway, and the possibility of linking the accused to more cases cannot be ruled out,” said Mokgwabone.
People are urged to report any additional information related to the suspects or similar crimes to police or the SAPS extortion hotline 0800 911 011.
