Young flyers’ dreams take flight at Wonderboom National Airport
Wide-eyed wonder was all around as thousands of children – many experiencing air travel for the first time – filled Wonderboom National Airport for a day of sky-high dreams, aerial thrills, and unforgettable memories during the 10th annual The Children’s Flight celebration.
Thousands of excited young children, some of whom have never been on a plane before, filled the Wonderboom National Airport on July 25.
They gathered as part of the 10th anniversary of The Children’s Flight initiative, which took off in spectacular style.
From as early as 06:00, aviation professionals, volunteers, and non-profit organisations gathered to welcome many underprivileged children who took up the once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to fly.
More than just a joyride, the initiative is a powerful platform to ignite their dreams and curiosity about the world of aviation.
Children from disadvantaged communities, orphans, and those with disabilities or serious illnesses were treated to an unforgettable VIP experience, complete with aerial displays, pilot meet-and-greets, and the unmatched thrill of flight.
Founded a decade ago, the event continues to soar, thanks to community collaboration and an unwavering belief in its impact.
“We’ve seen how much this means to the children.
“If you bring the right professionals together and you believe in the cause, amazing things happen. It’s a blessing from above,” said organiser Felix Gosher.
The event also showcased the spirit of generosity as sponsors, local businesses, and volunteers came together to ensure safety and joy remained the top priorities.
Although budget constraints and logistics remain a challenge each year, the passion behind the project never wanes, bringing inspiration and the hope of a brighter future to the children.
“I hope aviation leaves an indelible print on your life. Enjoy your moment, and maybe one day, come back to give someone else the same chance,” Gosher told the children.
