Metro police chief under scrutiny over undeclared funds
The metro has confirmed it is looking into allegations of the TMPD chief having received a large amount of money and failing to declare it.
The Tshwane metro police chief is currently being investigated after allegations surfaced that she received almost half a million rand as a gift and failed to declare this to the metro.
Metro spokesperson Lindela Mashigo confirmed that an internal review was underway, as it was alleged that TMPD Chief, Commissioner Yolanda Faro, received a sum of up to R450 000.
Faro and a team of senior officials, along with their spouses, allegedly received the cash while returning from a festival at the Sun City Resort in February, according to Mashigo.
Faro allegedly failed to declare the funds, as required by the metro’s policy for public officials.
The metro said the matter is being treated with the seriousness it deserves. “The city confirms that it [the matter] is currently undergoing internal review processes,” said Mashigo.
He added the metro was committed to ensuring full accountability and transparency, and that the appropriate internal mechanisms would follow due course.
“We appeal for the space to conclude this process responsibly and reiterate our commitment to ethical governance and upholding the integrity of the administration,” he said.
Mashigo further urged the public to exercise caution and responsibility when engaging with information that lacks a factual basis.
Rekord reached out to Faro for comment via her office but was redirected to the metro. If any further comment is received, it will be added here.
