Ga-Rankuwa housing allocation process clarified amid surge in enquiries

Residents have been cautioned that applications submitted directly to the Ga-Rankuwa Housing Department will not be considered for this specific development. The beneficiaries are those who registered on the National Housing Needs Register between 1999 and 2000.

The Tshwane metro has moved to clarify the allocation process for the much-anticipated Ga-Rankuwa Ext 10 housing development, following a surge of enquiries and applications from residents.

MMC for Human Settlements Aaron Maluleka has urged residents to take note that beneficiaries for the project will be selected strictly through the National Housing Needs Register, and not through new or walk-in applications.

This comes after the municipality recently announced that the Ga-Rankuwa Ext 10 development will deliver 204 walk-up housing units.

The announcement triggered an increase in residents visiting local housing offices to submit applications or seek clarity on how to benefit from the project.

However, the metro has emphasised that this is not the correct process.

“Beneficiaries for the Ga-Rankuwa Ext 10 housing development will be identified through the National Housing Needs Register,” said Maluleka.

He added that the register remains the official system through which housing beneficiaries are identified to ensure fairness, transparency and consistency in the allocation of housing opportunities.

Residents have been cautioned that applications submitted directly to the Ga-Rankuwa Housing Department will not be considered for this specific development.

Maluleka explained that the current allocation process prioritises applicants who registered on the housing database between 1999 and 2000.

He encouraged all residents who are already on the system to verify and update their details to avoid missing out on potential opportunities.

“Residents who are registered on the National Housing Needs Register are encouraged to ensure that their information on the system is accurate and up to date,” he said.

In addition to clarifying the beneficiary process, the metro has confirmed that groundwork for the development is already underway.

Maluleka said infrastructure installation has commenced, including water and sewer reticulation, stormwater systems, and the construction of internal roads.

According to Maluleka, this phase of the project is expected to take about 20 months to complete before construction of the housing units can begin.

Once completed, the development will deliver 204 walk-up housing units, which will be constructed by the Gauteng Department of Human Settlements.

Residents seeking further information are encouraged to contact the metro through official channels rather than submitting new applications.
