10-hour power cut set to hit parts of Centurion

A planned 10-hour electricity interruption on Thursday is expected to impact daily operations in Doringkloof, Lyttelton, and parts of Irene.

Businesses and residents in parts of Centurion should prepare for a 10-hour interruption to their power supply on Thursday, as the Tshwane metro conducts essential repairs to its electricity infrastructure.

The outage will affect Doringkloof, Lyttelton, and parts of Irene, with power expected to be off from 08:00 to 18:00.

Metro spokesperson Lindela Mashigo said the interruption is necessary to allow technicians to repair damaged feeder cables in the area.

“The City of Tshwane’s Energy and Electricity Business Unit wishes to inform customers in Doringkloof, Lyttelton, and parts of Irene about a power supply interruption planned for March 26,” he said.

The work is part of ongoing efforts to stabilise the city’s electricity infrastructure and prevent unplanned outages in the future.

Although the maintenance is planned, it is expected to disrupt daily operations for businesses and households, particularly those that rely on electricity for trade, remote work, and essential services.

Mashigo urged residents to exercise caution during the outage.

“Customers are advised to treat all electricity supply points as live at all times,” he said.

He also encouraged residents to use the metro’s reporting channels if they experience outages outside the scheduled timeframe.

According to Mashigo, consumers can contact the customer care centre at 012 358 9999 and select option 3, or send an SMS with the word ‘power’ followed by their account number to 082 612 0333 or 44676.

“The city apologises for any inconvenience that may arise as a result of the planned interruption,” Mashigo added.
