No increases for Gautrain fares this year

The all-day parking for R1 promotion is also continuing until September.

Gautrein management has recently confirmed that the train service will not increase fares this year, as is customary at the start of June each year.

The announcement comes amid surging petrol prices, crippling the already strained pockets of local and national residents.

Management Agency CEO, Tshepo Kgobe, said that by taking this decision, Gautrain is reaffirming its commitment to a world-class commuter experience for all its passengers.

“At a time when many households are under financial pressure, our priority is to ensure that Gautrain remains a trusted and affordable transport option. By keeping fares unchanged for 2026 and extending our R1 parking initiative, we are reinforcing our commitment to accessible mobility while continuing to deliver a safe, reliable, efficient and world-class commuter experience,” Kgobe said.

The most recent fuel hikes occurred at the start of May, as an increase of R3.27 per litre on petrol, a R6.19 per litre increase on diesel, and a R4.22 per litre increase on paraffin were announced on May 6.

In addition to the unchanged fees, Gautrain also said that it will continue its R1 parking promotion, which allows passengers to park at Gautrain stations for just R1 per day when using the train service.

The initiative, launched on April 1, 2025, will remain in place until September 1, 2026, further enhancing value for commuters who rely on integrated park-and-ride facilities.

Pretoria is home to three Gautrain stops: Centurion, Pretoria Central and Hatfield.
