Boschkop officer earns promotion in forensic division
A university graduate’s determination to pursue his dream career within the South African Police Service has become an example of how patience and operational experience can open doors to specialised policing.
Warrant Officer Gundo Tshivhotshwa’s promotion from frontline policing in Pretoria to a specialised forensic role has been hailed as an example of perseverance and career growth within the SAPS.
The former Boschkop Police Station officer has been promoted from constable to Warrant Officer after successfully securing a position as Warrant Officer: Quality Control in the SAPS Forensic Services Division in KwaZulu-Natal. His appointment took effect on August 1, and he is expected to officially begin his duties at the Forensic Science Laboratory in Mayville on September 1.
According to Tshwane SAPS spokesperson, Captain Johan van Dyk, Tshivhotshwa’s journey reflects how determination and a clear career goal can lead to opportunities within the organisation.
“Warrant officer Tshivhotshwa’s journey reflects what can be achieved through determination and willingness to embrace every opportunity,” shared Van Dyk.
After matriculating from Mphalaleni Secondary School in 2012, Tshivhotshwa obtained a Bachelor of Science degree in Biochemistry and Microbiology from the University of Venda in 2017. His ambition was to build a career in microbiology within SAPS, but because positions in the specialised forensic environment were advertised internally, he first joined the organisation as a police trainee.
Instead of viewing the requirement as a setback, he embraced operational policing. He completed the Basic Police Development Learning Programme at the SAPS Academy in Moloto before being deployed to Boschkop Police Station. There, he completed his workplace experiential training and was appointed as a Constable in February this year.
“Warrant Officer Tshivhotshwa has shown that commitment, patience and hard work are recognised,” said Major-General Samuel Thine, Tshwane District Commissioner.
Thine added that Tshivhotshwa’s journey from university graduate to frontline police official, and now to the specialised forensic environment, demonstrates the value of gaining practical policing experience while remaining focused on long-term career goals.
“His achievement is an inspiration to young graduates and serving members who are working towards their own career aspirations within the South African Police Service,” added Van Dyk.
Thine said the district was proud of Tshivhotshwa’s achievement and wished him success in his new role, expressing confidence that he would continue serving the SAPS and the people of South Africa with dedication and professionalism.
