Mams woman killed in suspected mistaken identity shooting

It is believed that the shooting is in connection with inheritance money.

Mamelodi police need the public’s help in finding a man who shot and killed a woman in her late 20s in what is believed to be a case of mistaken identity.

“Apparently, the victim and her mother look alike,” said police spokesperson Captain Johannes Maheso.

“We suspect that he mistakenly shot the daughter instead of the mother over inheritance money.”

The suspect, believed to be aged between 28 and 34, shot the woman at her residence in Mamelodi West on March 18 several times.

According to the police, the suspect is of medium complexion, approximately 1.8m tall, and with dark eyes and dark short hair. He was wearing a white T-shirt.

Maheso said the witness, the victim’s grandmother, she saw a man fleeing from their residence as she returned from the shop where she’d gone to buy a cold drink.

Maheso said when the witness entered the house, she found her granddaughter lying in a pool of blood.

He said the victim was with her sister when the man came in and started shooting at her.

She was confirmed dead on the scene.

Police said the public should not try to apprehend the suspect because he is armed and dangerous, but call the police on 08600 10 111 or Detective Sergeant Mokhowana on 079 219 1061 or 079 860 7100.
