Metro awards bursaries to five students
MMC for corporate and shared services Kingsley Wakelin said the bursaries, worth R214 000 collectively, will allow the students to pursue their studies at different universities.
Five lucky students recently received higher education bursaries from the Tshwane metro and the Tshwane Leadership and Management Authority (TLMA).
The initiative was in partnership with EST Sourcing and MaxProf companies.
Corporate and shared services MMC Kingsley Wakelin said the bursaries, worth R214 000 collectively, will allow the students to pursue their studies at different universities.
Kingsley said the Tshwane metro through TLMA is committed to supporting the youth and students who need financial support to further their studies.
He said it has been able to achieve this by partnering with companies such as EST Sourcing, as they also provide opportunities for learners to do work-integrated learning in the metro.
“The five selected bursary recipients will study at the Tshwane University of Technology, the University of South Africa and North-West University,” Kingsley said.
Kingsley added that EST Sourcing approached TLMA to provide a database of disadvantaged youths awaiting financial support to further their studies.
He said the request was followed by a vetting process to select successful candidates for the bursary programme, with two of the students living with disabilities.
“EST sourcing specialises in the management of corporate social responsibility for companies such as MaxProf. Through its work, EST Sourcing focuses on providing access to higher education for South African youths,” he said.
“The company works with public and private colleges and ensures that beneficiaries receive mentorship and support throughout their qualifications.”
Kingsley thanked social responsibility partners and stakeholders for assisting in opening the doors of education for the selected five students.
“We hope that we can have more partnerships such as these to benefit more learners,” he said.
