Aardklop is coming to Pretoria

Festivalgoers in Pretoria can enjoy two weeks of theatre at the Atterbury and AfriForum theatres and a four-day festival with live music, panel discourse, book discussions, arts and crafts, children’s entertainment and much more at the iconic Voortrekker Monument from October 6 to 9.

The Momentum Beleggings Aardklop National Arts Festival is heading for the mother city this year, with productions at various theatres in Pretoria culminating in a four-day festival at the Voortrekker Monument in October.

Festivalgoers in Pretoria can enjoy two weeks of theatre at the Atterbury and AfriForum theatres and a four-day festival with live music, panel discourse, book discussions, arts and crafts, children’s entertainment and much more at the iconic Voortrekker Monument from October 6 to 9.

Award-nominated Tweespoor, with Nicole Holm and Inge Crafford-Lazarus, is a satirical take on a conversation between two women from different times telling the intimate stories of how traumatic events can change lives. Tweespoor can be seen at the AfriForum theatre on September 30 and October 1.

Director Marthinus Basson brings us Terminaal 3 on September 30, and October 1 and 2 at the Atterbury theatre. The production, starring Anna-Mart van der Merwe, André Roothman, Stian Bam, Edwin van der Walt and Carla Smith, tells the Lars Norén tale of two families at opposite life events in this emotional story that shows how unpredictable life can be.

Frieda van den Heever directs the special tribute to Antjie Krog and Antoinette Kellermann as they both turn 70 this year in Die oerkluts kwyt at the Voortrekker Monument on October 6 and 7.

Also on October 6 and 7 at the AfriForum theatre, Die Negende Stap is a slice-of-life drama about a relationship between a mother and her daughter that explores themes of forgiveness, addiction, atonement and the sins of the older generation.

The story of Beyers Naudé is told through the eyes of his only daughter, Liesel, about his struggle between God and church in Oom Bey, my pa. With Ira Blanckenberg and Robert Hindley, and directed by Dawie Boverhof, Pretoria audiences can catch the show at AfriForum theatre on October 8 and 9.

Other attractions include the Laerskool Noord Kyk noord en stoot voort, a comedy by Ilne Fourie; Drie kaalkoppe kuier tesame with Koos Kombuis, Dana Snyman and Erns Grundling; kykNET In Gesprek with Lourena Eckard featuring big names in politics John Steenhuisen, Herman Mashaba and Pieter Groenewald.

Nataniël’s Die Smitstraat Suite, created especially for Momentum Beleggings Aardklop will be presented at Afrikaanse Hoër Seunskool, in collaboration with AK21.
