Four firearms and 598 rounds of ammunition were confiscated during the latest Operation Okae Molao anti-crime operation in Tshwane last week Thursday.
The operation, led by Soshanguve station commander Brigadier Michelle Toohey, also stopped and searched 419 vehicles and 761 people on Soutpan Road near Father Smangaliso Mkhatshwa secured centre in Block R, according to Rietgat police spokesperson Captain Stephen Maluleka.
It involved SAPS, the Tshwane metro police, home affairs and department of labour and other departments.
About 200 Aarto fines to the tune of R100 250 and 10 J534 notices totalling R14 000 were issued.
He said 22 illegal immigrants were nabbed.

Two persons were also arrested for dealing with and possession of drugs. About 20 zip-lock bags of dagga were confiscated.
Nine illegal taverns were shut down while 752.19 litres of illicit liquor were confiscated within the Rietgat precinct.
Illicit cigarettes were also confiscated.

Maluleka said the operation recovered R8 170 of counterfeit money at a tuck shop on Soutpan Road near the Boikhutsong informal settlement.
“I am very impressed with the community’s collaboration with the police,” said Tshwane acting district commissioner Brigadier Samuel Thine.
“If it were not for their whistle-blowing efforts, we would not have recovered these firearms and illicit property.”

All the arrested suspects are expected to appear in the Soshanguve magistrate’s court soon.
