Cool off this weekend with Pretoria’s local offerings
After a long hot week, markets, live entertainment, vintage car shows and more could be the medicine you need.

After the heat this week melting your mood, a day out might just be the medicine you need. This weekend is filled with a variety of markets, and packed with live entertainment.
Deep Roots Night Market, October 7

Deep Roots Night Market is returning, and they are proud to say they are here to stay.
Live music by Bianca Blanc, Rosh, Lungelo & the Moy-Os, and Gina Mabasa will be accompanied by a food and goods market. Picnic blankets and camp chairs are encouraged, and dogs are allowed for a good night out with your furry friend.
Entrance is only R30, and kids, pensioners and dogs enter free. The market opens from 16:00 and the last performance starts at 21:00.
Boeremark 30 Jaar Feesviering Karnaval, October 8

The Pretoria Boeremark in Silverton is celebrating their 30th year with a carnival day that includes their usual offering, as well as fun and entertainment for the whole family.
The event promises street performers, clowns, balloon artists, jumping castles, and more. The carnival will take place at their usual venue in Silverton and will start at 05:30 till midday.
Somer Fees, October 8

A brand new festival wants to show the others that we can party in Afrikaans.
The event will be hosted by Angelique Gerber on the lawns at the Royal Elephant Hotel, just outside Centurion. The festival will run from 11:00 till 20:00 and is organised by the Tequila and Mexican Food Festival.
Acts on the day will include Francois van Coke, Van Pletzen, Jo Black, Early B, Tasché, and Zaan Sonnekus.
Klapperkop trail run, October 8
For a more active start to your weekend, the Friends of Groenkloof and Klapperkop nature reserves have created the Klappies project that includes a family walk and trail run.
The walk and trail run will start from 07:00, and will include a 4km or 8km loop. The event is free, but donations can be given.
Garden day, October 9
It’s time to learn how to make a flower crown because Garden Day 2022 is almost here.
Garden day is a movement that encourages garden lovers to enjoy their gardens, whether it has large lawns or just a few pots on a windowsill. Gardens require work for most of the year, so take a chance to down your tools and enjoy your hard work.
You can get involved by joining in on social media at @GardenDaySA, or by attending the various events at garden centres and community gardens all over South Africa.
Spring festival Classic and Vintage car and bike day, October 9

Whether you’re a fan of vintage and classic cars, or just for a relaxed day under the trees, the Spring Festival classic and vintage car and bike day will make for a more relaxing Sunday outing.
The event will take place from 10:00 to 14:30 at the Pretoria Old Motor Club in Silverton. There will be classic and vintage cars, bikes, trucks and engines on display. Exhibitors enter free, while adults will cost R30 at the entrance. Kids under 12 are free.
There will be a number of food stalls, and there will be braai and picnic facilities available.
Hartebeespoort Family Fun Day, October 9

The Hartbeespoort Family Fun Day will return this weekend with a burst of colour. For an escape from the hustle and bustle of the city, the event takes place at Hartbeespoort Holiday Resort.
The family fun day has attractions for kids of all ages, from fun rides for the little ones, to exciting giant slides for the older kids. Tickets are R130 for kids under 12 and R150 for adults, and include access to all the rides and slides, colour powder for the burst of colour, and live entertainment.
Braai areas and picnic spaces are available. Tickets are limited, so booking beforehand is recommended.
Spertyd, AfriForum Theatre, October 19-23
This lockdown gem by Elsa Joubert, and performed by Sandra Prinsloo scored Prinsloo a best actress award nomination at the Fiestas after just one performance. This year, the one-person show will be awarded the Fleur du Cap award for the best one-person show, and takes audiences through the world of old age.
The production will run daily at 19:00 until October 22 and at 14:00 and 15:00 on October 22 and 23.
