New threads for Central patrollers
Dladla says the effort will assist the station reduce crime in the city and commends the business owners for their assistance.
Pretoria central community patrollers received a wardrobe upgrade recently thanks to a joint effort between the local police and Marabastad business owners.
Marabastad business community (MBC) is a collection of local small business owners in the area and includes Abebe Refera, Nafek G Abebe, Andualem Kebede, Solomon Refera, Abey Deledabo, Seide I Issa, Solomon S Berham, and Fasil Hailey.
MBC donated new overalls to the Pretoria central police community patrollers, an initiative that central police communication officer, Constable Thabang Nkhumise says will help alleviate crime in the area.
“This measure will ensure that all of our patrollers are easily identified by the community, and further enable them to report criminal activities in time with the increase in visibility,” said Nkhumise.
Station commander, Brigadier MM Dladla was in attendance with the central SAPS management team for the handover as well as CPF chairperson, Mr Msimango.
Dladla said the effort will assist the station to reduce crime rates in the city and commended the business owners for their assistance in the fight.
“Such initiatives and partnerships will assist the station in curbing the surge of crime in the city and the surrounding areas. I also would like to thank MBC for coming forth and assisting the station in fighting crime by ensuring that there is more visibility in our areas,” said Dladla.
The central SAPS report that contact crime such as theft, shopping lifting, common assault, common robbery and related crimes remain a challenge in the area and that if patrollers are easier to identify, the rise in this crime may be arrested.
The Central SAPS hopes other businesses in the area will follow MBC’s example and also help the police in any way they can.
