Pretoria West police search deaf school
The police intend to continue with these surprise school searches as part of their school outreach programmes and to create trust among the youth in the area.
Transoranje school for the deaf was the latest target in a series of school searches conducted by the Pretoria West police.
West police officers, the police K-9 unit, and metro police conducted the drug search operation on October 31 at the school on WF Nkomo Street, Pretoria West.
“The purpose of the visit was to remind the learners that drugs are a no-no in the school premises at all times and that the police will not tolerate children being involved in such activities as smoking and such,” said police spokesperson Constable Sibongile Vuma.
Staff assisted the police in translating instructions to the learners during the search.

“A total of 11 classes and all learners were searched with the assistance of three dogs. Nothing illegal was found,” Vuma continued.
After the search was completed, the police and partners had a chat with some of the young learners, where they had the opportunity to pose questions directly to the officers.
The Grade R group particularly enjoyed the visit from the K-9 officer as the little ones could not resist the drug-detecting agent.
Learners were also reminded to be always aware of the rights they have and the responsibilities that come with them.

The police intend to continue with these surprise school searches as part of their school outreach programmes and to create trust among the youth in the area.
Other schools they have searched recently include Bagale primary school in Lotus Gardens and Lotus secondary school.
Some of the partners that the police have worked with on previous searches include community patrollers, NGO Youth For Survival (YFS), and other various entities within law enforcement.
