Laudium residents send metro letter of demands

A lawyer’s firm has sent a letter of demand to the Tshwane metro on behalf of Laudium residents fed up with frequent power outages to fix power issues in the area.

A lawyer’s firm has sent a letter of demand to the Tshwane metro on behalf of Laudium residents fed up with frequent power outages to fix power issues in the area.

The letter by Madiyyah Patel Attorneys demands that the Tshwane metro resolve the power issues in Laudium and Erasmia – or face legal action.

According to the Laudium Sun page, the letter demanded the metro address “frustrations experienced by residents as well as the violations of our rights concerning service delivery among other issues”.

It further called upon the authorities to “act with immediate effect” – or “the matter will be taken to court for adjudication”.

Ward 61 residents are being backed by at least 37 community-based organisations, vowing “to take this matter head-on so that we are not deprived of our basic rights,” the post read.

The Tshwane metro confirmed receipt of the letter and said it was committed to resolving power outages.

Meanwhile, Gerhardsville residents (also ward 61) have also been without water for more than 48 hours now.

Resident Jan van der Westhuizen said the water outage was a result of a burst pipe in the area that was “fixed” less than four weeks ago.

Lindela Mashigo said the metro was, however, in the process of acquiring the damaged pipe to be replaced.

“The procurement process is underway to acquire the required pipe, fittings, and specialised welding of the 400mm diameter pipe. In the meantime, the City will ensure that residents receive water through tankers,” Mashigo added.
