Fijnwyn sparkles no matter the weather

“It’s always good vibes, good people and even better wine.”

Muddy roads and thunderstorms didn’t stop Pretoria residents from enjoying Saturday’s Fijnwyn Food and Wine Fest.

The festival, held at the Shokran event venue in the east of Pretoria, prides itself on hosting the best of wine estates both new and established and aims to provide the Cape experience locally.

Festivalgoers were welcomed with live local music, open-air seating, multiple food choices and, of course, the guests of honour: wine, lots and lots of wine.

Nicky Lindeque (pictured) a Fijnwyn fan welcomed the event’s return.

“These kinds of events are needed in both the wine industry and the community. It’s nice to get out with family and friends and support.”

South Africa ranks eighth in overall volume production of wine and produces 4.1% of the world’s wine, according to a study commissioned by the SA Wine Industry Information & Systems (Sawis).

“We are spoilt for choice here at Fijnwyn,” locals Samantha Taylor and Tyler Silva told Rekord.

A wine estate in Gauteng told Rekord that it was important to note how essential events like these are to the wine industry as most vendors only sell their products at festivals and wine shows like these.
