Tshwane police recover ‘stolen property’

Legodi advises residents to be careful with their possessions as crime spikes in the run up to the festive season.

Two people were arrested in central and west of Pretoria recently when Tshwane police flying squad members found a stolen iPhone and Mercedes-Benz in their possession.

The police found the white Mercedes-Benz sedan valued at R140 000 in Vom Hagen Street, Pretoria West and arrested one person in connection to its theft.

“The vehicle was stolen in Norkem Park, Kempton Park.

“The vehicle was later transported to the Pretoria West pound for further processing as the matter is still under investigation,” said flying squad communications officer Sergeant Legodi.

The suspect was charged with possession of a suspected stolen motor vehicle.

The flying squad located the vehicle with the assistance of a tracking device installed in the car.

In a separate incident, the flying squad members returned an iPhone valued at R6 000 to its lucky owner and arrested another person in connection with its theft.

When concerned residents reported that the phone had been stolen in Sunnyside, central Pretoria, the police began a stop-and-search operation in the area.

The search proved successful when police recovered the phone from one of their search subjects on the corner of Francis Baard and Glyn streets in Hatfield.

Legodi advised residents to be careful with their possessions as crime spikes in the run up to the festive season.

The suspects are expected to appear in court in due course.

Residents with any information on these matters are urged to contact the Tshwane flying squad on 012 841 0048.
