Two suspects arrested for possession of stolen vehicles

Other vehicles being targeted by criminals included the Fortuner, Ford Ranger, BMW, NP200, VW Polo, 4×4 vehicles and 4×2 bakkie/vans.

The Tshwane flying squad has arrested two suspects for possession of stolen vehicles.

The suspects were found in possession of a Toyota Fortuner and Mercedes Benz in Mercedes C200 in Mabopane on Thursday.

Police spokesperson Sergeant Alfred Legodi said the first suspect was arrested after a short chase on the M17.

“While patrolling, police officers spotted the Toyota Fortuner and after a short chase we cornered it on the M17 near ext 08 Itsoseng, Mabopane,” he said.

The suspect from Mamelodi was arrested for possession of a stolen car by Mabopane Police.

He said the car was stolen in Hercules.

Legodi said after they had successfully recovered the Toyota, they noticed a Mercedes Benz C200 making a U-turn and gave chase.

“We gave chase and recovered the vehicle near Mabopane Block D,” he said.

He said the car was hijacked in Pretoria West and a suspect was arrested and detained by Mabopane police.

The police said Toyota Fortuners were targeted by hijackers in Pretoria.

Other vehicles being targeted by criminals included the Ford Ranger, BMW, NP200, VW Polo, 4×4 vehicles and 4×2 bakkie/vans.

Last week, the police recovered an NP200 with an estimated value of R98 000 at Block KK west.

The car was reported stolen in Wonderboompoort.
