Vala Konke arrests six in Atteridgeville

In addition to the arrests made, a further four liquor outlets were shut down for breaching by-laws.

Six people were arrested last week when Atteridgeville police conducted a Vala Konke operation throughout the area under the leadership of their new station commander, Brigadier Andrew Monegi.

Operation Vala Konke is a multidisciplinary law-enforcement operation that addresses crime in the area by monitoring hotspots and ensuring motorists, pedestrians and businesses are compliant with the metro’s laws.

A man and woman were arrested for possessing and selling dagga.

“It is alleged that the female suspect was selling the dagga at an illegal liquor outlet while the male suspect was apprehended next to Hofmeyer High School,” said police spokesperson Constable MM Rikhotso.

In addition to the arrests, four liquor outlets were shut down for breaching by-laws regarding the sale of alcohol and the owners were arrested.

Atteridgeville police urged residents to adhere to metro by-laws as these operations are set to continue throughout the area.

The new SAPS Atteridgeville station commander was joined by members of the flash unit and sector managers backed by the “Siyabangena” team whilst operations commenced.

Monegi said he was ready to take on crime in the area heads on.

He said community involvement was key to defeating crime within the area. He urged residents to play a proactive part in the police’s fight against crime.
