Tshwane flying squad recovers hijacked vehicles

The flying squad is having a busy end to 2022.

The SAPS Tshwane flying squad recently recovered two vehicles that were hijacked in Pretoria.

The first vehicle was a white Polo Cross valued at R120 000, which was recovered in Temba, Hammanskraal.

The vehicle was found abandoned at the corner of Makurukuru and Ntumbuluko streets parked next to some rental rooms.

The Local Criminal Record Centre (LCRC) were on the scene after the recovery was made to process the vehicle, which was then transported to the Pretoria West vehicle crime investigation unit for further investigative processing.

A few days later, the flying squad recovered yet another hijacked vehicle, this time a white Hyundai H100.

The bakkie, valued at R75 000, was hijacked in Phelindaba, Atteridgeville in Pretoria West. The car was recovered by flying squad members when it was left abandoned near the flats at E’skia Mphahlele Drive and Vom Hagen Street, Marabastad.

The Pretoria central police’s LCRC was on the scene to process the vehicle, after which, it was also transported to Pretoria West for further processing.

Both cars had damage to their number plates in attempts by the hijackers to disguise the stolen vehicles.

The flying squad is having a busy end to their 2022 as just earlier this month, they recovered a Honda superbike in Pretoria West and VW Polo valued at R250 000.

A further two Toyota Hiluxes were also recovered in Soshanguve Block VV and Ga-Rankuwa, one of which was stolen in Sunnyside.

Often these cars are left abandoned as the trackers in them give authorities the chance to find their exact location.

Motorists are encouraged to ensure that their vehicles are roadworthy, fitted with a tracker and that they adhere to the rules of the road.

Flying squad spokesperson Sergeant Legodi commended his team for their quick response time when called to action and cautioned residents to also be aware of their surroundings when driving at night.

Any individuals with information regarding the aforementioned cases are urged to contact the Tshwane flying squad at 012 841 0048 or the Crime Hotline at 0800 10111. Callers can remain anonymous.
