Report corrupt police officers – new Atteridgeville station boss

The newly appointed Atteridgeville station commander urged residents to report any suspected criminal activities.

Newly appointed Atteridgeville police station commander Brigadier Andrew Monegi has taken a no-nonsense approach to crime in the problematic policing precinct.

This became clear during his first engagement with the community on Sunday at the African Methodist Episcopal church, Saulsville, west of Pretoria.

“My main aim is to ensure that community receives the service they deserve,” Monegi told the gathering.

He added that achieving his objective could be hindered by a lack of community support and dishonest police officers.

The station commander said among a lot of good police officers some are bad.

“I cannot be on every street corner in the area and, therefore, I am going to need your assistance.”

He urged community members to report suspicious activities by fellow community members or police officers, citing that they should be the eyes and ears of the station commander.

“I need community members to police the police because, as the management, we do not see what they do after sending them to help you – community members. Report them when you know they meet drug dealers and it seems suspect.”

He said he wanted those incidents reported for him to deal with them should they exist in their policing precinct.

“Once we make sure that community members get the best service, it is going to be easy for everybody to accept us as the police and start to respect us.”

He said he was aware that Atteridgeville had a lot of problems and working with the community would help him and his team to deal effectively with problems in the area.

Monegi is not a new kid on the police block but a 33-year veteran.

He commenced his new duties at the station last Monday.
