Sosh woman sentenced to five years for killing husband

The Soshanguve magistrate’s court has sentenced a 60-year-old woman to five years in jail for fatally stabbing her husband in 2021.
According to the evidence presented before the court, on the evening of January 21, 2021, the accused had an argument with the deceased that led to the deceased drawing a knife in an attempt to stab the accused Josephine Modzunga.
However, the accused quickly overpowered him and took the knife from him and fatally stabbed him in the upper body, at their place of residence in Block P Soshanguve.
Modzunga was subsequently arrested and charged with murder which was later changed to culpable homicide.
She was found guilty and sentenced to five years in prison under Section 105A of the Criminal Procedure Act of 1977.
Rietgat station commander Brigadier Molatelo Maphoto welcomed the sentencing and expressed his gratitude to Detective Sergeant Thabo Rathwakga for the conviction.
“It is very heart-warming to see cases reaching the conviction stage. It also helps the victim’s families and the community in finding closure,” said Maphoto.
