North police arrest nine during festive season operation

The suspects were arrested during the station’s operation aimed at maintaining law and order ahead of the festive season.

Soshanguve police and stakeholders arrested nine people during an operation in Soshanguve on Wednesday.

Police spokesperson Constable Nhlanhla Zondi said the operation on Wednesday, November 23 is part of the police’s Safer Festive Season campaign to put more boots on the ground to maintain law and order and prevent crime during the festive season.

Zondi said the operation took the police to Marry Me informal settlement, extention 3 and block TT, which had previously been identified as crime hotspots.

He said the arrests proved the operation was a success.

“A man (25) was arrested for possession of suspected illegal ammunition, a 26-year-old for possession of suspected drugs, seven suspected illegal immigrants were also nabbed as well as two illegal gambling machines confiscated,” he said.

Visible policing commander Colonel Celia Napo was delighted with the impact the presence of the police had in the area during the operation.

She urged the team to work with pride, integrity and unity for the safety of the people of Soshanguve during the festive season and beyond.
