Ga-Rankuwa cops ready to protect community during festive season

“Police officials will not go on vacation during the festive season to increase personnel numbers.”

Ga-Rankuwa police acting station Colonel Paballo Nkosi thanked everyone who played a role in fighting crime throughout the year.

She said the station was given the responsibility to create a safe and secure environment for all people and infrastructure.

“It indeed requires nothing less than a total commitment of our men and women in blue,” said Nkosi.

The station is also providing safety tips as we enter the festive season.

Nkosi said 2022 was one of the most challenging years for the station since it came into existence 22 years ago.

“The station suffered a huge blow when it went more than eight months without electricity due to infrastructural challenges,” she said.

Nkosi thanked staff for the resilience they displayed during those bitterly cold nights they had to endure.

“The station could successfully keep crime levels low even during this time of adversity,” she said.

She also thanked the community for their support and constructive criticism in areas that needed improvement.

The station assured the community that their dedicated police will be hard at work during this festive season to ensure that they are safe.

“Police officials will not go on vacation during the festive season to increase personnel numbers. As part of the festive season plan, we will also use the services of stakeholders such as the CPF, business forum, security companies and our informal networks,” Nkosi said.

They called upon those who invested through stokvels to be wiser when they share their hard-earned savings.

“We highly recommend using electronic payments instead of carrying hard cash,” she said.

She said it will also help to avoid risky parties, which alert criminals of the sharing of their earnings.

“Victims fall prey to opportunistic criminals who learn of those who benefitted from stokvel savings,” she said.

Here are some safety tips:

– Do not carry too much money when going to drinking places.

– Do not carry weapons when you attend social gatherings.

– Do not share a drink with someone you do not know.

– Avoid confrontation when under the influence of alcohol.

– Do not leave your drink unattended.
