9-year-old donates to animal shelter

Many animals need a loving home, and the organisation is inviting residents to take one in or make a donation.

A nine-year-old recently donated 32 8kg bags of food to animal shelter Wollies.

Chené Jonker of Pretoria east sold strawberries and blueberries to her school community to raise the funds to buy the food.

She said her big passion and a lot of compassion for animals birthed the idea to support the shelters that is home to more than 400 cats and 700 dogs in the north of Pretoria.

The young model also has a number of catwalk titles and a passion for mathematics.

Wollies needs six black refuse bins filled to the brim to feed dogs in its care daily, its also donates a bag of pet food to 50 households that do not have the financial resources to purchase food for their pets each a month.

The organisation said without these donations, the families would have been forced to give up their pets.

The organisation also feeds stray dogs in the township to ensure that dogs can eat even though they do not have a place to call home.

Many animals need a loving home, and the organisation is inviting residents to take one in or make a donation.

All donations received go towards the care of the animals at the organisation.
