Police officer gifts Hammanskraal learner shoes

The officer was so touched by a young boy learner who wore boots to school during a back-to-school campaign programme in Hammanskraal last week that she immediately went to buy him school shoes.

A Temba police officer donated school shoes to a learner during a recent visit to Hosia Kekana secondary school.

Constable Welheminah Hlongwani was so touched by a young boy learner who wore boots to school that she immediately went to buy him school shoes, according to Temba police spokesperson Sergeant Herman Moremi.

“The shoes were donated during a school visit at which learners were addressed about [avoiding] criminal activities,” he said.

Temba station commander Brigadier Johannes Tau applauded the officer during the back-to-school campaign on Thursday at Hosia Kekana secondary school and encouraged others to make a difference in the lives of some learners.

“The constable led by example and hopefully others will follow in her footsteps. This will make a huge impact on that learner and encourages him to wake up every morning like other learners to go and study,” he said.

The police visited five schools in the safety campaign on the second day of schools reopening as part of the back-to-school awareness campaign.

The following schools were visited to address learners on various topics:

– Ratshepo secondary in Temba

– Bokamoso secondary in Stinkwater

– Moditela secondary at Lephengville

– Hosia Kekana secondary at Ramotse

– Rakgotso secondary at Eersterus

Learners were told about bullying, discipline, drugs, illegal gambling as well as possession of dangerous weapons, assault, theft, cyberbullying, human trafficking and reporting a missing person.

They were urged to refrain from communicating with strangers on social media platforms like Facebook and to be vigilant at all times.

The police work hand in hand with their metro police counterparts, brigades and Imisebeyelanga in the effort.
